We enjoyed our meal at Kompali this weekend. Located right on Brady St, it's the perfect place to swing into for some delicious food. The queso was a little to heavy for me, although I really enjoyed the green peppers in it. My friend and I split a combination plate which included one tostada (my favorite -- so delicious), one enchilada and one taco as well as rice and beans. The combo plate is a lot of food for $13.50. We also had the standard margarita. It packs a REAL punch for $7.

Kompali Taqueria arguably has thee best tacos in the Milwaukee area. Every Tuesday and Thursday every taco is $1 off and they have $5 house margaritas. I love Kompali because of its wide-selection of tacos. The deep fried scallop tacos are my favorite!

The food is so so good! I had a lamb taco, a steak taco and a chorizo and they were all delicious but the lamb was my favorite. Most definitely worth checking out! Service was fast and friendly and there's plenty of tvs to watch the packers game by the bar. The other side has more of a dinning feel if you're not looking for a sports atmosphere. Overall very impressed!

I've been in Milwaukee just long enough to remember Cempazuchi and have eaten there a few times. I miss it and was sad to see it go. I had walked by Kompali a few times after it opened up and meant to stop in, but finally I did the other night, wanting tacos and being on kind of a budget. They have good food though service is a little hectic.
I wouldn't say they compare to Cempazuchi as far as food and overall atmosphere. Maybe it's the way their space is. It seems to encourage people to come and go. But I came in during one of their busier periods. And I was chilling by myself and eating tacos but not drinking. So I get it. I got waited on but had to wait for things. Food came out pretty fast once it was ordered though.
They focus on tacos though the other dishes (enchiladas, tortas, burritos, even ceviche) look promising. I got tacos. You get beans or rice with 4. The tacos looked a little small on other people's plates but up close they were substantial. I didn't get chips (I saw baskets for them) but my 4 tacos and black beans were filling. I got 3 fairly traditional ones (tinga-style pollo, barbacoa, and lengua) and one "Vincent" (Vietnamese-style beef with pickled vegetables.) The pollo was good but the beef ones were my favorites. I'm not sure which I liked best. They have some other interesting-looking options like Peruvian-style beef hearts and "tripas."
I would go back for more tacos and drinks. I can't really fault a restaurant on Brady St for being slammed on an early-summer Taco Tuesday at 9:00 at night. I think they have better options than Bel Air and are a little more laid-back. They have brunch, also, which might be worth checking out. -

Disappointing experience that was partially redeemed at the end by management.
To make a long story short (and believe me, it was long) we waited F O R E V E R for our food to come out. No big deal to a gang of friends maybe, but I was there alone with my 3.5-year-old daughter, and it was really tough. In the end, we waited 35 minutes for five tacos...and only got four of them. I kept seeing other orders coming out of the kitchen, and there were only four tables plus a big group at the bar. How were they getting served before us?
The wait staff didn't treat my repeated follow-ups with any urgency, until close to the end when one guy did apologize and tell me that they would comp our guacamole.
Shortly after the food arrived, the manager came out and apologized again, reiterating the guac comp, at which point I mentioned the missing taco. I insisted that I didn't need it but wanted to make sure that it was removed from the bill.
He really really wanted to bring me the taco, and promised that it would come out in "less than a minute"; so I took him up on this. And indeed it arrived in about 30 seconds. However, this just annoyed me further, because if they could make one taco in 30 seconds, why did it take 30+ minutes to make the first four?
Anyway, the food was mostly pretty good. The asada and chicken tacos were great, fish and barbecue pork were just okay. The pork in particular had a weird taste which must have come from their odd take on barbecue sauce. The guacamole was fresh but a bit bland.
